I actually wrote this a week and half ago but didn’t post the entry. But here it is, one of my first restaurant reviews published here.

Went to this new sushi place in Ahwatukee. I learned about this place from Eddy who knew from Angela. If I haven’t checked with Angela that this place is cheap, I would have thought it’s one of those fancy sushi places from the outside. It says fine dining
The place is big and decorated brightly. It got the revolving belt like sushi boat and sushi train where there are small plates of the sushi going around the sushi bar and the guests just pick whichever plate they want. The plates are color-coded to mark different prices. The sushi was good and CHEAP. Seriously cheap, no happy hour needed anymore, yeay, I can go to sushi anytime now. The prices are I think from $1.75 to $3.75 or $4/plate. As long as they don’t raise the price and keep the same quality, I will be a regular
. The portion of the roll is also not big, like half the regular sushi rolls which is cool so we get to even try more items. We had about 13-14 plates with dessert and spent less than $50. Several of my favorites: Phoenix roll (deep fried roll which is not usually my favorite, but here it’s so good, we had two of those), haru sushi (2 slices of tuna sashimi with crab mix and smelt on top), miso soup (because it’s only $1!!!), deep fried ice cream (it’s a scoop of vanilla ice cream inside a shell of deep-fried cake with tempura batter, I don’t think the ice cream is fried like the fried ice cream I know, but rather just placed inside the fried batter) came in 3 balls for $3.50. But there are a couple items I didn’t like either: the squid salad (somehow the squid is not that good) and the spicy scallop roll (bites of scallops on top of California roll, but too bad the scallops are not baked so it’s a bit fishy for my taste). The other items are pretty standard, although I wish the caterpillar roll has more items in the roll along with the eel).
Update Tuesday, April 15, 2008:
Went back to Haru this past Sunday. For some reason the fish didn’t taste as fresh as the first time we went. And the sushi was not consistent!! I had the same Haru Sushi which is 2 pieces of tuna sashimi covering crab mix, but last time it got the smelt roe on top and this time it didn’t have the smelt roe. Is it because it’s made by different sushi chef? So, yeah, it was not as good as the first time we went, but we’ll go again, after the first excellent experience, they deserve a second chance
